Kurt Szuba rushed for 100 yards and also stood out on defense to lead Ocean View to a 28-6 victory over Santa Ana Valley Friday night.

Szuba, a 5-foot 10-inch senior, intercepted two passes and broke up several others with hard tackles as the Seahawks posted their second win before an estimated crowd of 2,000 at Huntington Beach’s Sheue Field.

“We were a lot more disciplined this week than last,” said Szuba, whose team was shut out by Newport Harbor, 20-0. “We kept our heads up this game.”

Ocean View took advantage of several breaks to build a 22-0 halftime lead. Midway through the first quarter, Scott Sudyka recovered a Santa Ana Valley fumble at the Falcons’ five-yard line to set up a short touchdown run by Szuba.

On the second play of the second quarter, Santa Ana Valley’s Paul Peters, back to punt, had trouble fielding a high snap. Before he could get the kick away, Szuba tackled him at the three-yard line. Soon, John Beaubien ran up the middle for the Seahawks’ second score.

Things didn’t get any better for Santa Ana Valley. Ocean View’s Phil Bowen blocked the Falcons’ next punt and Victor Gutierrez recovered in the end zone for another Ocean View score.

Matt Bertram added a pair of field goals for the Seahawks, who lost their shutout bid when Dion Evans threw an option pass to Paul Peters.
