STATISTICAL WATCH : Sollom May Have Thrown 10 Touchdown Passes, but What Has He Done Lately?

Share

Is Ken Sollom in a slump? After passing for a Valley-area-leading 10 touchdowns in the first 2 1/2 games of the season, he didn’t throw any in the second half of Canyon’s 26-7 win over Thousand Oaks. The talented quarterback only threw four second-half passes after Canyon took a 20-7 halftime lead. . . . Eight Canoga Park players caught passes in the Hunters’ 23-7 loss to Cleveland. . . . Five players have attempted passes for Moorpark with little success. They have completed 13 of 40 for 133 yards with 5 interceptions and no touchdowns.

Scoring: It seemed routine when Lloyd Thomas of Moorpark scored on a 15-yard run in the third quarter of the Musketeers’ opener. Moorpark hasn’t scored in nine quarters since. . . . Other Tri-Valley League teams are having the same problem. Except for Carpinteria (97 points) and Bishop Diego (70), the rest of the league would have trouble locating the end zone with a Thomas Bros. guide. Santa Ynez has scored 15 points, followed by St. Bonaventure and Fillmore with 7 each. Moorpark has scored 6 points, and Oak Park 3. . . . Canyon is tied for sixth in scoring average (36.7) in the Southern Section, and Crespi is tied for sixth in scoring defense (2.3). . . . The Valley area has the No. 1 team in the Coastal Conference in scoring offense in Canyon (36.7 points per game) and the No. 1 team in defense in Simi Valley (3.7). Simi Valley is also fourth in offense (23.0). Westlake (22.0) and Newbury Park (21.3) are seventh and eighth. Thousand Oaks (10.7) is tied for fourth in defense. . . . Vic Topper holds the Westlake career records for most extra-point kicks made and attempted (45 of 58).

Rushing: After Canyon tailback Lance Cross reinjured his back in the first half against Thousand Oaks, fullback Paul Chadwell moved to tailback and gained 91 yards in the second half. . . . North Hollywood ran 40 times for 396 yards and 7 touchdowns against Verdugo Hills.

Defense: Granada Hills was incorrectly listed as last in defense among Valley-area City Section teams in Sunday’s editions of The Times. Actually, Granada Hills has allowed only 217 yards passing and 253 rushing for an average of 235 yards--not 329.0 as reported.
