Bolsa Grande High School, which has been neglected as far as rankings are concerned, defeated Artesia, 19-7, Thursday night at Bolsa Grande High School.

Coach Greg Shadid thinks Bolsa Grande (4-0), which has outscored its opponents, 132-29, should be ranked.

“We’re happy to be undefeated and tonight was a real test, but I would really like to see us ranked after this win,” he said.

Bolsa Grande, known for its offense, instead had an outstanding night on defense, intercepting three passes in the first half.

On the Bolsa Grande nine-yard line, Artesia quarterback Brian Smith rolled left and his pas was intercepted by Damond Fisher, who returned it 91 yards for a touchdown, giving Bolsa Grande a 6-0 lead.

The Bolsa Grande defense held Artesia (1-3) to 21 yards passing and stopped the Matadors twice inside the one.

Matador running back Ricky Lepule rushed for 105 yards in 12 carries and scored on a 56-yard run to put Bolsa Grande ahead, 12-0, at halftime.
