Norwalk Overcomes Penalties, Santiago
Norwalk High School overcame 12 penalties for 95 yards to remain undefeated in a 14-3 nonleague victory Friday over Santiago at Garden Grove Stadium.
Quarterback Mike Tronosco concluded a 51-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to give the Lancers (4-0) a 7-3 lead. David McCoy recovered a Santiago fumble at the Lancer 49 to set up the drive.
The Lancers came back on their next possession when Tronosco found Kirk Cardenas open down the left sideline and completed a 48-yard touchdown pass play. John Onofre’s conversion gave Norwalk a 14-3 lead.
The only offense Santiago (1-3) could manage against the stingy Lancers was the running of Hao Dihn, which set up a 24-yard field goal by Francis Chan in the second quarter.
Norwalk gave up only 73 yards rushing and did not allow the Cavaliers to complete a pass, intercepting Santiago quarterback Jason Marquez twice.
