El Dorado High School capitalized on a pair of Kennedy mistakes in the first quarter Friday night and routed the Irish, 37-7, in an Empire League game in Valencia High’s Bradford Stadium.

Each team was 0-4 before the game.

Kennedy center Tony DeVeito made a pair of bad snaps over the head of punter Raif Anderson in a 2:13 span in the first quarter. El Dorado not only recovered both times, but scored on the first play after each snap to take a 13-0 lead.

Running back Chris Olsen, who scored 3 touchdowns and gained 103 yards in 15 carries for the Golden Hawks, scored the first touchdown on a seven-yard run.

Six plays later, El Dorado quarterback Doug Yates threw a nine-yard scoring pass to Robert Coon.

John Christensen, who led the Irish with 72 yards on 15 carries, was carried off the field in the third quarter after suffering what appeared to be a neck injury. The senior running back was taken to Placentia-Linda Hospital in Placentia and released after X-rays of his neck proved negative.

Christensen scored Kennedy’s only touchdown when he caught a 65-yard pass from quarterback Brett Hepler.

Hepler and Todd Bristow combined to complete 3 passes in 16 attempts for 89 yards. Yates completed 8 of 14 for 115 yards and 2 touchdowns.
