Mike Kane ran for 120 yards and a touchdown in 23 carries, and the Cal State Northridge defense forced seven turnovers in a 7-3 win over Cal Lutheran in a Western Football Conference game at Thousand Oaks.

Cal Lutheran held Kane in check until midway through the second quarter, when he burst up the middle for a 39-yard touchdown run and a 7-0 Matador lead. In the fourth quarter, Kane had a 34-yard run to set up Northridge’s other touchdown, a 26-yard pass from Danny Fernandez to Richard Brown. The touchdown gave Northridge (4-1 overall, 1-1 in the WFC) a 14-3 lead, and the Matadors added a field goal.

It was the third loss in a row for Cal Lutheran (2-3 overall, 0-2 in WFC), which was without injured quarterback Tom Bonds, who was hurt two weeks ago in a loss to Cal State Hayward. Last week, without Bonds, the Kingsmen were routed by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Bonds is expected to return next week.
