Valley’s Top Two Girls Players to Sign Basketball Letters Today

Two of the Valley’s most heavily recruited girls basketball players said Tuesday that they will sign letters of intent today.

All-City forward Diane DeCree, who led Kennedy High to the City 4-A championship last season, said that she will choose Texas A & M over Washington.

Andrea Knapp, an All-Southern Section forward from Louisville High, made a verbal commitment on Sunday to Cal.

Among the boys, 6-4 1/2 guard Sean Davis of El Camino Real said that he would sign today with San Jose State.

Today is the first day of the eight-day early signing period. If prospects don’t sign before midnight next Wednesday, they can’t sign until April 8, 1987.

DeCree and Knapp said they planned to sign early to relieve the pressure of recruiting. “I’ve got things to do,” DeCree said. “I want to party in my senior year.”

Knapp’s teammate, Lynn Flanagan, said that she will sign today with Loyola Marymount.

Meanwhile, 6-8 Gary Gray of Granada Hills and 6-2 Kevin Franklin of Taft, who indicated that they would sign this week, have changed their minds.

Gray, who visited UC Santa Barbara last month, said he is still waiting to hear from schools that wrote letters to him--Duke and Georgia Tech, in particular.

Franklin said his mind wasn’t made up after visits to Oregon and Michigan State. He’ll visit Clemson next month.
