Troy 63, Buena Park 7--David Shirota caught four touchdown passes from Mike Pawlawski as the Warriors tied Fullerton for third place in the league with the victory in Fullerton District Stadium.

Shirota had 9 receptions in the first half for 149 yards. His touchdowns of 11, 23, 19 and 27 yards helped Troy (3-2, 8-2) take a 56-7 halftime lead.

Early in the second quarter, Shirota caught a 10-yard pass from Pawlawski to set a school record for receptions in one season with 41. Pawlawski played only the first half, completing 10 of 11 passes for 173 yards.

Troy drove 85 yards in less than two minutes to open the game, with Shirota’s touchdown reception capping the drive. Thirty seconds later, Pawlawski intercepted Buena Park quarterback Steve Lucas and returned the ball 22 yards for Troy’s second touchdown.

With a 49-point halftime margin, coaches John Turek of Troy and Mike Barron of Buena Park agreed to reduce each quarter in the second half from the standard 12 minutes to 10 minutes.

Buena Park (0-4-1, 0-9-1) scored its touchdown on the second play of the second quarter as Lucas completed a six-yard pass to Robert Speno. Lucas, who completed 10 of 27 passes for 126 yards, was intercepted 6 times.
