Season-ticket sales for basketball games at Maryland, where controversy has raged since the cocaine-induced death of Len Bias, are off more than 50% from last season, the Baltimore Sun said.

As of Friday, the deadline for retaining the tickets, the athletic department had received fewer than 800 renewals of 2,200 season tickets sold last year, the paper said.

The estimated loss in revenue for the department could be as high as $140,000.
