Bobby Layne, 59, the Hall of Fame quarterback who led the Detroit Lions to three NFL titles in the 1950s, was reported to be in critical condition at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock, Tex., officials said. He underwent surgery to stop bleeding in his lower esophagus on Saturday.
