The undefeated United States, winner of the world championships in France last month, beat the Soviet Union, 12-7, 12-6, 12-3, for its sixth straight victory and clinched the eight-nation men’s World Cup men’s volleyball championship at Osaka, Japan.

The United States meets Japan on the final day of the tournament today, but even if it loses and both teams end up with 6-1 records, the United States will have won the title on the basis of sets won and lost.
