Walt Baranski, Patrick Henry High School football coach, resigned Monday after his team finished the season 0-10.

Baranski was a junior varsity coach at Patrick Henry from1971 to ‘83, and an assistant coach at Hoover High from 1965 to ’71.

“I just felt that at this time there’s a need for a change,” Baranski said. “It’s not any one thing. I’m reluctant, but as of (Monday) I resign.”

Baranski took over in 1984 and led the team to a City Eastern League title and a 7-3 overall record. The past two seasons, however, Patrick Henry has been 3-16-1.

Baranski said he wants to spend more time with his family.

“I would like to stay on and help the program as an assistant coach, if I can,” he said. “I enjoy the camaraderie with the coaches and the kids. I enjoy helping the kids, helping them to move on in their academics and their athletics.”
