Lynwood High School used a powerful running game and a strong defense to defeat Loara, 16-0, Friday night in a second-round Southern Section Southern Conference game at Lynwood High School.

Lynwood (8-3-1) advances to the semifinals against Santa Ana Dec. 5. Santa Ana defeated Esperanza, 17-14.

Loara, Empire League champions finishes 10-1-1.

Quarterback Keith Nixon put Lynwood ahead, 7-0, in the first quarter with a 35-yard run for a touchdown.

Jose Ortiz kicked a 29-yard field goal to make it 10-0 in favor of for Lynwood, which finished second in the San Gabriel Valley League.

Loara quarterback Scott Wood completed 12 of 20 passes for 146 yards but was intercepted twice in the fourth quarter to stop Loara drives.

Andrea Williams had both interceptions, the second of which came in the last minute on the Knight 10.

Lynwood scored its final touchdown on one-yard run by Roy Turner.

Nixon rushed for 80 yards in 11 carries and Turner 70 in 15 carries for the Knights.
