ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASKETBALL : Girls’ Roundup : Smith Again Leads Edison in Victory Over Costa Mesa
Edison High School center Kristi Smith scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds Wednesday as the Chargers defeated Costa Mesa, 64-48, in the second round of the Irvine Tournament.
Smith, a 6-foot 1-inch transfer from Elsinore High, was playing in only her second game for the Chargers. She scored 19 points in the Chargers’ opening-round win over Estancia.
Guard Michlle Hennessey had 10 points and 7 assists. Forward Stacee Johnson had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Edison will play Woodbridge Friday.
In other Irvine Tournament action:
Woodbridge 69, Ganesha 28--The Warriors (2-0) were led by forward Gilly Powell, who scored 20 points and got 10 rebounds.
Brea-Olinda 85, La Sierra 19--The Wildcats had no problems in this second-round game. Forward Carrie Egan led Brea with 20 points. Freshman guard Amy McDaniel scored 14 points and had 8 assists. Forward Denise Weiland added 11 points for Brea.
