HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER : Westlake Opens Season With 2-1 Win Over Ventura

Jason Unger’s unassisted goal late in the first half broke a 1-1 tie and enabled Westlake to beat Ventura, 2-1, in the season opener for both teams.

Westlake goalie Chris Volk made some key saves in the second half to secure the victory. Wally Androski scored early in the game to give Westlake a 1-0 advantage.

Reseda 3, Cleveland 2--Reseda stayed in contention for the West Valley League title with a win at Cleveland on Thursday. Reseda improved its league record to 5-2-1 with just two games remaining. The Regents are in second place behind Chatsworth.

Midfielder Terry Davila and forwards Victor Caldroen and Jeff Shargera each scored for Reseda, which is 7-3-2 overall.

Chatsworth 5, Taft 0--Chuck Gordon of Chatsworth scored the first two goals with assists from Colin Anthony. Chatsworth had 32 shots on goal; Taft had none. Chatsworth is 5-0-3 in West Valley League, 8-0-4 overall. Taft is 6-1-1 in league.

Chaminade (girls) 6, La Reina 1--Cris Casazza had three goals for Chaminade, while teammate Carla Coppa added another three. Nicole Radford scored La Reina’s lone goal.
