Crespi 28, Eisenhower 14--Sophomore Russell White rushed for 150 yards in 20 carries and scored once to lead Crespi to the Big Five Conference final Friday night at Anaheim Stadium. The Celts will be match against Del Rey league foe St. John Bosco, which defeated Fontana, 42-21. Earlier this year, undefeated St. John Bosco handed Crespi its only loss, 32-27.
Hart 21, Santa Maria 7--The Indians advanced, as expected, to the Northwestern Conference final behind a strong running attack and two touchdown passes by quarterback Jim Bonds at Santa Maria. Bonds, the Southern Section’s leading passer, completed only 6 of 12 passes for 112 yards, but he hit David Lee with a 33-yard scoring pass in the first quarter and Chris Hite with a 17-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Running back Andy Iacenda had 114 yards in 20 carries, including a 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that proved to be the winning margin. Santa Maria lost three out of six fumbles, two recovered by Hart senior linebacker Ralph Elliott. The win advanced Hart into the Northwestern Conference final against top-seeded Temple City.
St. Joseph 21, Harvard 0--Pat Huguenard ran for 129 yards and and 2 touchdowns in 30 carries to lead the Knights over the Saracens at Righetti. St. Joseph’s three touchdowns came on drives of 74, 83 and 61 yards. St. Joseph quarterback Mark Brunell completed 6 of 12 passes for 122 yards. Harvard was hampered by three lost fumbles. In a rematch, St. Joseph (10-3) will play Atascadero (10-2-1) in the Desert-Mountain Conference final. Atascadero defeated St. Joseph, 32-16, this season in a Los Padres league game.
Antelope Valley 41, South Torrance 7--Eric Mortensen scored on runs of 33, 1 and 4 yards and gained 143 yards in 16 carries lead Antelope Valley into the finals of the Coastal Conference where it will play defending champion Muir. Antelope Valley quarterback Ron Whipple completed 7 of 13 passes for 108 yards and also scored on a 32-yard run. South Torrance got the last touchdown of the game on a 14-yard pass from Zak Krislock to Brett Boston.
Arroyo 14, Cajon 10--Junior running back Fernando Zabala ran 9 yards for a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter for the Knights to advance them into the Southeastern Conference final. The winning touchdown was set up on a 40-yard pass from Willie Reyna to Anthony Alvarez, who also caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Reyna in the third quarter. Zabala had 102 yards on 25 carries.
Valley Christian 21, Tehachapi 14--Sean McQuown caught a 10-yard pass from Lance Havel on the first play of the California tiebreaker and the Crusader defense then held Tehachapi scoreless on four straight plays to win the Inland Conference semifinal game at Tehachapi. The win over the defending champion avenged a loss in last year’s semifinals. Valley Christian’s Bryan Templeman gained 148 yards in 27 carries and scored once. The Crusaders will play the winner of tonight’s Carpinteria-Bishop game.
