Orange County Prep Soccer : Irvine Kicks Itself Into Championship Game
The Irvine High School boys’ soccer team qualified for the final of the Irvine tournament despite a scoreless tie at the end of regulation play with Foothill Friday.
Irvine (6-0) beat the Knights in the semifinal match on penalty kicks, 8-7, with Chris Peterson making the winning kick. Goalie Ed Lieppie had 15 saves for the Vaqueros.
Irvine plays Villa Park today for the tournament championship. Villa Park beat Laguna Hills, 4-0, in the other semifinal.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Sunny Hills 4, Artesia 1--Ramon Miramontes scored two goals and Abid Chaudrhy and Mike McCuen scored one apiece for the Lancers (3-0) at Sunny Hills.
In girls’ nonleague play:
Laguna Hills 3, University 0--Junior Joanna Noble scored all three goals for the Hawks (5-0). Noble has six goals this season.
