Louie of Newport Beach Wins to Reach Finals of Senior Grand Prix Tournament
Judy Louie of Newport Beach, top seeded in the women’s 40 singles, is one of four Orange County players in today’s final of the Southern California Senior Grand Prix Masters Tennis Tournament at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego.
Louie defeated Judy Marsh of Studio City, 6-3, 6-2, and will play second-seeded Andi Plisky of Los Angeles. Polisky sprained her ankle in the middle of the second set but was able to defeat Sharon Schlueter of Laguna Beach, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.
Dan Bohannon of Orange defeated Jeff Torres of Monterey Park, 6-1, 6-4 in the men’s 35 division. The top-seeded Bohannon will play No. 2 Guy Fritz of Palm Springs. Fritz defeated Reseda’s Gabriel Harmat, 6-4, 7-6.
Huntington Beach’s Debbie McCormick, second seeded in the women’s 35 division, defeated Rae Murback of Reseda, 6-4, 7-6. McCormick will play top-seeded Dee Williams-Horne of Pasadena, who defeated Cherie Kay of Laguna Hills, 6-4, 6-0. In the men’s 55 division, top-seeded King Lambert of Santa Ana will play Mel Lewis of Inglewood. Lambert defeated Robin Willmer of Los Angeles, 6-1, 7-5 and Lewis upset No. 2 Ed Kauder of Beverly Hills, 6-2, 6-3.
The finals begin at 10 a.m. today.
