SAN DIEGO — The University of San Diego men’s basketball team, improving all the time according to Coach Hank Egan, meets Cal State Long Beach tonight in the first round of the Boise State Tournament at Boise, Ida.
The Toreros (4-2) are coming off consecutive wins over San Diego State and UC Santa Barbara.
“We’re doing a better job of sustaining our effort on the court. At the beginning of the season, we’d play well for awhile, then play not so well,” Egan said.
Long Beach comes into tonight’s game with a 4-3 record. Included are victories over Bradley, Houston and Pepperdine. The 49ers are led by 6-foot 5-inch junior guard Morlon Wiley, who is averaging 14.9 points per game.
USD is led by 7-foot center Scott Thompson, who averages 18.3 points. Thompson will be going up against Long Beach’s 6-10 junior, DeAnthony Langston, who is averaging 14.3 points.
The other first-round game will feature Boise State against Southwest Texas State. The winners will play Saturday night for the championship.
