Lazers Try to End Tailspin Against Sting
The Los Angeles Lazers, losers of six of their last seven Major Indoor Soccer League games, will play the Chicago Sting tonight at Chicago.
Because their primary scoring threats remain on the injured list, the Lazers (4-7), coming off a 3-2 loss to St. Louis Friday night, have been able to score just 39 goals--the fewest in the Western Division. Compounding the Lazers’ problems, forward Paul Kitson, the only player on the team with more than 10 points, will miss tonight’s game because of a back injury.
Chicago (3-8) is winless against Western Division opponents. Coach Willy Roy, who has guided the Sting to two league championships and several indoor and outdoor division crowns, resigned Tuesday, citing burnout as the reason.
Roy was replaced by assistant coach Erich Geyer, who coached the Sting to a 5-4 win Friday over the first-place Baltimore Blast.
