ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASKETBALL : Boys’ Roundup : Mumar’s Assistance Helps Brea

Dexter Mumar, a senior guard, had 20 assists to lead Brea-Olinda High School to a 71-58 victory over El Modena Friday night in boys’ nonleague basketball action at El Modena in Orange.

Mumar’s 20 assists is four short of the school record set by Bob Sallis in 1978.

Bob Terry scored a game-high 19 points for the Wildcats (8-5). Gary Chiotti added 18 points and Ron Thomas 15 for Brea.

John Degree scored 16 points for El Modena (1-9).

In other nonleague play:

La Quinta 74, Sonora 62--Kenny Bennett scored 18 points and Chris Jackson added 16 as the Aztecs evened their record (6-6) with the victory. David Morris scored 18 points and Grayle Humphrey had 16 for the Raiders.

San Clemente 61, Mission Bay 47--Mike Peters scored 16 points and had 8 assists for the Tritons (4-7).

Rob Buhler scored 15 points, Justin Burrows added 15 points and 9 steals and Todd Risko had 10 for San Clemente, which has won three of its last four. The Tritons’ only loss in the streak was in overtime against Fallbrook.

Newport Christian 41, Rio Hondo 34--Guard John Adachi scored 10 points and Scott Cooper added 9 for the Conquerors (3-4).

Mira Mesa 56, Dana Hills 52--Despite 24 points from Davis Cmelek and 15 from David Miller, the Dolphins (2-8) lost at Mission Bay High School.
