Veteran racing drivers Bill and Don Whittington, who pleaded guilty last year to tax evasion, drug smuggling and money laundering charges, were sentenced to prison and ordered to turn over $7 million in property to the federal government.
Bill Whittington, 37, who pleaded guilty in early 1986 to income tax evasion and conspiracy to smuggle marijuana into the United States from Colombia, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Jose A. Gonzalez.
Gonzalez also ordered him to give the government title to property, race cars, boats and planes worth a total of $7 million the government said he purchased with the profits from drug smuggling.
Don Whittington, 40, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison. He had pleaded guilty to charges of money laundering.
