Torrey Pines 60, Mount Carmel 52--Scot Thompson scored 18 points and Mike Radcliffe added 14 to lead Torrey Pines (2-0, 12-3) to the victory at Mount Carmel. The Falcons trailed, 41-40, entering the fourth quarter before rallying to win. John Krainock led Mount Carmel (1-1, 10-3) with 15 points.

San Dieguito 46, Fallbrook 40--San Dieguito was able to snap Fallbrook’s full-court press in the first half to take a 30-19 lead. San Dieguito (1-0, 7-5) was 14 of 16 from the line. Chris Bahr had a game-high 19 points and Shawn Caster had 8 rebounds and 5 steals to lead San Dieguito. Mark Ringkamp paced Fallbrook (1-1, 7-9) with 14 points.

Briefly--Vista 64, Poway 40.

AVOCADO LEAGUE

Carlsbad 71, San Pasqual 48--San Pasqual scored the final nine points of the first half to pull within 30-29, but a sound second-half running game gave host Carlsbad the victory. Karl Molinar led Carlsbad (1-1, 3-8) with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Roberto Salas and Todd Perry had 10 points each for San Pasqual (0-2).

GROSSMONT LEAGUE

El Capitan 60, Helix 45--Eric Lozoya scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the first period to give El Capitan (2-3, 6-5) a 19-9 advantage.

Monte Vista 52, Mount Miguel 46--Scott Winne scored 18 points and James Gotell added 13 to lead Monte Vista (4-1, 7-3) past Mount Miguel at home. Haywood Mathis and Chris Penman scored 12 points apiece to lead Mount Miguel.

Grossmont 61, El Cajon 59 (OT)--Jason Foggiano drove inside and passed to Tom Aland he scored the winning basket for host Grossmont. Lance Williams paced Grossmont (3-2, 6-6) with 23 points. El Cajon is 3-3 and 6-6.

METRO CONFERENCE

Castle Park 85, Chula Vista 66--Castle Park scored 36 points in the second period to lead 55-30 at the half. Vince Bucca had 30 points and 5 steals and Brian Cauley had 10 assists to pace Castle Park (10-4). James McCurly led Chula Vista (10-6) with 20 points.

Hilltop 77, Southwest 55--Jud Rachow and Bryan Brookerscored 22 points apiece to lead Hilltop (1-2, 8-9) past Southwest (0-3, 1-10) at home. Mark Dirksen added 15 for Hilltop, which led, 34-25, at halftime. Mario Zaravia scored 16 points and Jonnie Walker had 12 for Southwest.

Montgomery 66, Coronado 40--Montgomery’s full-court press produced 21 Coronado turnovers for the victory at Montgomery. Kevin Crawford had 14 points for Montgomery (2-8, 1-2).

NONLEAGUE

Hoover 53, Serra 50--Tyrone Bell scored 17 points and Michael Walker added 15 to help the Cardinals (5-9) rally from a 15-point deficit to beat Serra at Hoover. Serra, the defending 3-A runner-up, led 24-9 after the first quarter before Hoover came back. Todd Knight scored 19 points to lead Serra.

La Jolla 48, Christian 38--La Jolla limited host Christian to two points in the final four minutes. With the scored tied, 35-35, early in the fourth period, La Jolla (9-4) scored six straight points to take control of the game. Daryl White scored 17 for Christian (9-4).

Mira Mesa 53, Mission Bay 47--Mira Mesa scored five consecutive points in the first period to pull away for the victory. Dave Lee had a game-high 26 points and Tal Miller added 12 for Mira Mesa (11-2). Mission Bay is 5-5.

Clairemont 48, Crawford 45 (OT)-- Mike Giordano scored all four points in overtime at Clairemont. Clairemont (10-3) trailed by nine points entering the final quarter but held Crawford to only three points throughout the quarter. Jason Deal had 16 points and 13 rebounds for Clairemont. James Henry led Crawford with 20 points.

GIRLS

Mira Mesa 62, Mission Bay 40--Darla Vaughn scored 21 of her game-high 30 points during the middle two quarters as Mira Mesa (7-7) outscored Mission Bay, 39-16, en route to the nonleague victory at Mission Bay. Sophomore Cristina Willis led Mission Bay with 15 points.
