Santa Clara Beats St. Mary’s, 55-43

Dan Weiss scored 19 points to lead Santa Clara past St. Mary’s, 55-43, in a West Coast Athletic Conference game Saturday at Moraga.
The Broncos (11-7, 2-2) broke out of a tie with 11:55 left by scoring nine straight points to take a 42-33 lead.
St. Mary’s (10-8, 1-3), which had a 25-22 halftime lead, managed to narrow the gap to five points, but the Broncos made their free throws in the stretch to hand the Gaels their first home defeat of the season.
Paul Robertson scored 20 points for St. Mary’s and Chris Lane added 12 for Santa Clara.
