Roundup : Suzuki’s Shot Gives Estancia 34-32 Win

Shannon Suzuki scored on an inside shot with seven seconds remaining Tuesday night to lift the Estancia High School girls’ basketball team to a 34-32 win over University in a Sea View League game in the Eagles’ gym.

Robin Greiner led Estancia with 10 points, and Erica Goodman had 15 rebounds. The first-place Eagles are 3-0 in league, 10-6 overall. Shelly Davis scored 16 points to lead the Trojans (1-2 in league).

Newport Harbor 48, Saddleback 41--Jenny Stucker scored 17 points and had 17 rebounds, and Stacey Giem added 14 points and 9 rebounds, for the Sailors at Saddleback. Newport Harbor, which had 76 rebounds, improved to 1-2 and 7-7. Saddleback is 0-3 and 0-11.

Tustin 58, Corona del Mar 29--Melissa Hammond scored 18 points to lead the first-place Tillers (3-0, 14-5) at Tustin. Darcy Holmberg had 12 points for the Sea Kings (1-2).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 74, Ocean View 41--Stacee Johnson scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Kristi Smith added 20 points and 14 rebounds to help the Chargers take sole possession of first place at Edison. The Chargers, ranked No. 1 in Orange County, improved to 4-0 and 19-1. The Seahawks are 3-1 and 10-8.

Huntington Beach 49, Marina 42--The Vikings scored only three points in the fourth period, as the Oilers rallied at Huntington Beach. Shawna Amstrong scored 19 points to lead the Oilers (3-1. 9-8). Dawn Charroin had 9 points and 13 rebounds for Marina (1-3, 10-9).

Fountain Valley 51, Westminster 41--Laurie DeHaven scored 18 points and Stacey Hasaka had 15 to lead the Barons (1-3, 11-10) at Fountain Valley. Devon Akita had 15 points for the Lions (0-4, 8-9).

In the Century League:

Santa Ana Valley 42, Villa Park 38--Sharon Murrell blocked three shots and made three of her eight steals in the final 1:15 to help the Falcons (2-1, 8-3) at Santa Ana. Senior guard Susan Hatchett led Santa Ana Valley with 20 points, and teammate Kim Groom had 17 rebounds. Sue Barnett led Villa Park with 23 points. The Spartans are 1-2 in league.

Foothill 72, Santa Ana 36--Najla Mitchell scored 13 points to lead the Knights (3-0, 14-3) at Foothill. Ashley Selman and Sue Davis each added 12 for Foothill. Tina Bruce scored 10 to lead the Saints (0-3, 4-9).

Canyon 61, El Modena 54--Keri Erkenbrack, a sophomore center, scored 25 points and had 32 rebounds to lead the Comanches (2-1, 10-6) at Canyon. El Modena was led by Mindy McFann with 19 points and Barbie Olsen with 18 points.

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 52, Sunny Hills 29--Adell Alvarez scored 17 points and Robin Seabrook added 13 to help the Highlanders at Sunny Hills. La Habra is 2-1 in league, Sunny Hills is 1-2.

Fullerton 77, Sonora 29--Heidi Shikuma scored 30 points and Vicki Silva had 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Indians (3-0, 9-6) at Sonora. Kim Ensing had 13 for Sonora (0-3 in league).

In the Orange League:

Magnolia 55, Savanna 36--Dawne Borum scored 17 points and Donica Katie added 15 to help the Sentinels (2-1, 14-3) at Magnolia.

Brea-Olinda 76, Western 14--The Wildcats improved to 3-0 in league and 13-3 overall at Western.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 50, Trabuco Hills 43--After a 28-16 halftime lead, Trabuco Hills lost its momentum while the Artists rallied at Laguna Beach. Felicia Chalmers scored 21 points and Lisa Watford scored 10 to lead the Artists (1-2, 9-5). Vickie Guider had 14 points for Trabuco Hills.

In the South Coast League:

El Toro 64, San Clemente 29--Elaine Youngs, a junior center, scored 32 points and had 15 rebounds to lead the Chargers (2-1, 12-7) at El Toro. Julie Anderson had 13 points for the Tritons.

In Olympic League boys’ action:

Orange Lutheran 46, Southern California Christian 41--Geoff McArthur scored 24 points to lead the Lancers to the come-from-behind win over the Flames at Southern California Christian. The Flames (0-5, 1-11) led until the 4:58 mark of the fourth period, when Jason Neben made a 10-foot jumper to give the Lancers (2-4, 6-9) a 40-39 lead.

In Academy League boys’ action:

Leffingwell Christian 70, Newport Christian 43--David Fowler scored 16 points to lead Leffingwell Christian.

Jon Bahnsen led Newport Christian (2-4, 5-9) with eight points and Scott Cooper had nine at Leffingwell Christian.
