‘Angels’ Leader Arrested at Ga. Trailer Park

State police today arrested Guardian Angels leader Curtis Sliwa and another member of his crime-fighting group at a trailer park where they wanted to stay in preparation for a civil-rights march Saturday.

Sliwa, who took a contingent of Angels to all-white Forsyth County after white supremacists attacked blacks in a “brotherhood march” last weekend, said his band encountered about 50 whites at a trailer park where they stopped to rest near Forsyth County.

He said the whites told the group they were not wanted, but he said there was no violence and “we gave them the message that eventually they are going to have to live with blacks.”

The group had walked 40 miles from Atlanta and planned to camp out to await a second “brotherhood march” set for Saturday.

Thomas Hunt, a spokesman for the Angels, said Sliwa and another Angels member identified only by the first name of Hiram, were arrested when they refused to leave the trailer park after residents had obtained a court order directing them to do so.
