San Diego Women’s Basketball : Murray Leads USIU Past Santa Clara

Fiona Murray scored 20 points and Sonya Carter added 17 to lead United States International University past Santa Clara, 67-59, Friday night in a West Coast Athletic Conference women’s basketball game in the Jewish Community Center at La Jolla.
USIU, which improved to 2-0 in conference and 9-6 overall, will play the University of San Francisco for first place tonight at 7:30 at La Jolla.
Amanda Spry had 12 points and Carolyn Davis added 11 for USIU, which led from start to finish. Murray also had 12 rebounds. Santa Clara (2-1, 7-7) was led by Dorinda Lindstrom, who scored 18.
University of San Francisco, 69, University of San Diego 55--USF improved to 3-0 in conference (11-4 overall) with its victory in the USD Sports Center. Margaret Walsh scored 21 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the Dons. USD (0-2, 7-9) was led by Jane Gilpin, who had 12 points, and Karen Skemp, who scored 10. USF shot 54% from the field, USD 36%.
Westmont 70, Point Loma Nazarene 57--Westmont College outscored Point Loma Nazarene, 44-28, in the second half to beat the Crusaders in a Golden State Athletic Conference game at Santa Barbara. Rick Collier led Westmont (3-1, 15-3) with 21 points. PLNC (1-1, 12-6) was paced by Steve Bruce’s 18 points.
