STATISTICAL WATCH : Davis’ One-Man Show Can’t Prevent 2 Losses

El Camino Real’s Sean Davis, the Valley’s leading rebounder among City Section teams with a 12.8 per-game average, had 31 rebounds and 46 points last week in losses to Fairfax and Cleveland, which have a combined record of 29-2. . . . Brothers Dominic and Peter Nappi of North Hollywood combined for 25 rebounds and 25 points in Friday’s 50-40 win over Grant.

Scoring: Kevin Franklin’s 37 points against Cleveland last Friday marked the 11th time he has scored more than 30 points this season. The Taft guard has scored more than 30 in all seven Valley League games. . . . No wonder Fairfax (7-0, 16-0) is dominating the Valley League. All three front-line players--Sean Higgins, Chris Mills and J.D. Green--are averaging more than 20 points a game. . . . Camarillo (2-12 overall, 1-5 in the Marmonte League) has a team field-goal percentage of 37%. . . . In Oak Park’s 85-56 win last Wednesday, Brian Friefeld, who was averaging 26.4 points per game, scored only 10 against Moorpark’s box-and-one defense. But Mike Birch, who was averaging fewer than 10 points a game, made 16 of 24 shots for 32 points. . . . Campbell Hall guard Donnie Sakaida made 18 of 39 shots and 10 of 12 free throws for 46 points in a 77-73 overtime loss to Camp Kilpatrick last week. . . . Hart has had four different high scorers in its past five games.

Streaks: Taft’s loss to Cleveland last Friday snapped an eight-game winning streak. . . . St. Francis’ win over Crespi two weeks ago was its first over the Celts in 14 seasons. . . . The Kennedy girls extended their winning streak in league games to 85 with two victories last week.

Girls basketball: Debbie Herz of North Hollywood (10-2, 5-0) had 21 points and 22 rebounds against Birmingham, then, two days later, had 16 points and 16 rebounds against Grant. . . . Reseda (8-1, 4-1) trails North Hollywood in the West Valley League by one game. Reseda’s leading scorer is Dana Jones (15.0). Junior Cheryl Hightower had a career-high 25 points in Reseda’s win last Friday at Taft. . . . Oak Park center Paula Fraley made 11 of 13 shots and 3 of 4 free throws for 25 points in last week’s win over La Reina. She also had 15 rebounds and 10 steals. . . . Monroe forwards Annette Robinson and Sonja Boozer had 28 and 26 rebounds, respectively, in a win over Sylmar. . . . Ayline Amirayan is averaging 24.1 points for Holy Martyrs.
