Orange County Prep Soccer : Brea-Olinda Keeps First Place in League With Rally

The Brea-Olinda High School boys’ soccer team overcame an early 1-0 deficit Thursday and defeated Western, 3-1, in an Orange League match at Brea.

The victory gave the first-place Wildcats (4-0-1, 10-4-1), a three-point lead over the Pioneers (2-1-2, 5-9-3). The first match between the teams ended in a scoreless tie.

Western took a 1-0 lead in the first minute when Steve Buzzetta scored on a breakaway. Brea’s Tony Catalano tied the score, 1-1, with a goal at the 13-minute mark.

The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead when Mike Oziminski scored 16 minutes into the second half. David Stark scored Brea’s final goal with 11 minutes left.

Steve Teran had two assists for the Wildcats, who are seeking their fourth consecutive league championship.

Valencia 2, Anaheim 0--Paul Rivera and Jeff Hudson scored to lead the Tigers (2-2-1, 5-8-3) at Anaheim.

In the Angelus League:

Mater Dei 3, St. Paul 0--Sam George, Jeremy Skiver and Mike Brady scored as the Monarchs (8-1, 15-2) won easily at Mater Dei. Goalie Mike Reese had to make only one save to record his fifth shutout.

Servite 6, Pius X 0--Erwin Garcia had three goals for the Friars (5-4, 8-9) at Cal State Fullerton.

In girls’ soccer:

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 8, Bolsa Grande 0--Kristin Harkins, Orange County’s all-time leading scorer, had two goals as the Aztecs won at Bolsa Grande.

La Quinta, the No. 4-ranked team in the Southern Section 3-A division, is 5-0, 18-3-1. Harkins has 132 goals in her career and 31 on the season.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 2, Kennedy 1--Tanya Smith scored on a header with 20 minutes left for the Centurions. Laura Heany gave Cypress a 1-0 lead with a goal 10 minutes into the half. Sara Uyew tied the score at the 25-minute mark.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills 10, Orange 0--Erin McGinnis and Xanne Brakke each scored twice for the undefeated Hawks at Orange.

Laguna Hills, the No. 1-ranked team in the Southern Section 3-A division, is 5-0, 15-0-4.

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 3, San Clemente 0--The unbeaten Diablos, the No. 1-ranked team in the Southern Section 4-A division, is 6-0 in league and 19-0-1 overall.

Stacey Hopper scored twice to give her 14 goals on the season, and Julie Foudy scored once to give her 19.

Dana Hills 1, Irvine 0--Corinne Dawson scored with 18 minutes left for the Dolphins at Irvine.

Dana Hills is 2-2-2, 12-5-2.

Goalie Karla Gunderson gained her 11th shutout by making four saves.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 0, Westminster 0--Lion goalie Stacie Humphrey made 11 saves in earning her eighth shutout as the teams played to a tie at Westminster.

Westminster is 0-2-5, 8-8-6.
