Orange County College Basketball : SCC Defeats Westmont in Big Way to End Streak

Southern California College’s 11-year, 13-game losing streak to Westmont was ended Thursday night when the Vanguards beat the Warriors, 96-72, in a Golden State Athletic Conference game at Costa Mesa.

Center Rob Lucas scored 25 points to lead the Vanguards (4-3 in conference and 16-7 overall). Randy Wynee and Jon Harr each added 16, and Todd Dixon had 15 points and 6 assists.

Ricky Collier, a transfer from Nevada Las Vegas, had 18 points to lead Westmont (4-3, 16-6).

In women’s basketball:

Fresno State 85, UC Irvine 59--Yvette Roberts scored 21 points and Laurie Henrich added 17 as the Spartans routed the Anteaters in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. game at Fresno. Fresno State is 9-3 in conference and 17-4 overall. Irvine is 5-5 and 9-11.

Nevada Las Vegas 61, Cal State Fullerton 54--Kim Crawford scored 15 points to lead the Rebels in Titan Gym. Bethel Lauder had nine points for the Titans. Las Vegas is 7-4 in conference and 13-7 overall. Fullerton is 4-6 and 7-12.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 59, Chapman 58--Janet Jorgensen made three free throws with nine seconds left to give the Mustangs the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. victory at San Luis Obispo.

Jorgensen made both ends of a one-and-one to tie the score at 58 and made one more when Chapman Coach Paul Kahn received a technical foul.

Valarie Hartsfield led the Panthers with 13 points.

Chapman is 4-3 in conference and 11-10 overall. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is 3-4 and 10-12.

St. Mary’s 81, Southern California College 61--Nina Johnson had 19 points and 9 rebounds and Char Reber had 18 points to lead the Gaels to the nonconference victory at Costa Mesa.

Delores Effinger had 21 points and 15 rebounds for Southern California, and Lisa Terry had 20 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot.

St. Mary’s is 8-11; the Vanguards 8-17.
