Share

A house fire fanned by Santa Ana winds destroyed a residence at 10272 Kristen St. Friday and left a firefighter and a neighbor with minor injuries. Houses on either side sustained minor roof damage from wind-borne debris.

The origin of the blaze is under investigation. The fire caused $175,000 damage to the home of Daniel and Antoinette Puglia, who were not at home at the time, county Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Rohde said. A neighbor noticed the fire at about 12:30 p.m. and called firefighters.

Firefighter Ray Holloway, 45, suffered a minor neck injury when roofing material fell on him. He was treated at Los Alamitos General Hospital and released. A neighbor received minor burns, but he declined medical care and would not give his name to firefighters, Rohde said. The 40 firefighters called to the scene had the fire under control in just under an hour.
