COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS : Moorpark Shuts Out Santa Barbara

Share

Moorpark College baseball Coach Ron Stillwell has been looking for someone to strengthen his pitching staff. He might have found his man in Mike Solomon, a freshman who threw four hitless innings Saturday to lead Moorpark to a 7-0 victory over Santa Barbara City College in the second round of the Glendale-Citrus Tournament at Citrus College.

Solomon, who started the game, struck out four and walked none as Moorpark advanced to the winners’ bracket of the tournament.

Moorpark (2-0) also received strong performances from freshmen Tony Marro and Mike Chase. Marro allowed one hit and one walk in two innings and Chase, who pitched the seventh and eighth innings, walked one and struck out three. The game was called after eight innings because of darkness.
