Canyon’s Wilborn to Attend Cal

Jason Wilborn, a 6-foot 4-inch, 230-pound linebacker from Canyon High School, has made a verbal commitment to attend the University of California and will sign a national letter of intent Wednesday.

Wilborn visited Oregon State and UCLA and cancelled trips to Hawaii and Oregon. He will join Troy’s Jim Difilippo and Mike Pawlawski at Cal.

Five Los Alamitos High School football players have made verbal commitments to continue their careers at four-year colleges and are expected to sign national letters of intent on Wednesday.

Quarterback Tom Williamson, offensive guard Chris Rose and defensive tackle Mike Rogers have all committed to the University of Nevada Reno, a Division I-AA program in the Big Sky Conference.

Defensive back Ryan Blossey will attend University of the Pacific, and center Steve Wood will sign with Cal State Fullerton.

USC got a verbal commitment from Monday night Marcus Hopkins, a San Diego Lincoln tailback.

Meanwhile, All-Southern Section running back George Hemingway of Colton, one of the top prospects on the West Coast, said he will attend Colorado.

Other verbal commitments heading into Wednesday’s signing day include punter Alan Glazer of Beverly Hills to Colorado State; running back-linebacker Keith Bowen of Westchester and defensive back Eric Crawford of Venice to Arizona State; linebackers Cornell Collier of Woodland Hills Taft; running back Sean Hampton of Sylmar to Hawaii, and wide receiver Trevor Doyle of Canyon Country Canyon to Weber State.
