Women’s Basketball : Pepperdine Defeats USD in Overtime
Sandy Sanders’ rebound basket with 11 seconds left gave Pepperdine a 60-58 overtime victory over the University of San Diego in a West Coast Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Malibu.
USD’s last-second shot went off the rim.
Jane Gilpin and Paula Mascari led USD (4-5, 11-12) with 12 points each and Julie Evans added 11. Kelli Behrens had 14 rebounds for USD.
Ernesta Grace led Pepperdine (5-3, 13-9) with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Point Loma Nazarene 57, The Masters College 46--Shannon Anderson scored 16 points and Loni Williams added 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to lead Point Loma Nazarene at Point Loma. Point Loma led at the half, 28-15, and was never headed. Shelamarie Tatum scored 14 points to lead The Masters College (formerly Los Angeles Baptist).
USC 96, Arizona 57--USC was led by Cherie Nelson’s 27 points in the Pacific 10 victory at the Sports Arena.
The Trojans went on a 14-4 run to break open the game, 32-22, with 4:55 left in the first half. USC (17-6 overall, 11-2 in the Pac-10) led, 46-27, at halftime.
CS Long Beach 99, Pacific 46--Cindy Brown, a senior forward, scored 33 points as the sixth-ranked 49ers breezed in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. game at Stockton. Long Beach (22-2, 12-1) also got 18 points from sophomore guard Penny Toler. Pacific fell to 10-11, 3-9.
UCLA 88, Arizona St. 77--Guard Jaime Brown had a game-high 26 points to lead the Bruins past the Sun Devils (9-12, 3-9) at John Wooden Center.
