OCC Dominates Golden West Swimming Meet

The Orange Coast College men’s and women’s swimming teams swept the Golden West Invitational meet Saturday at Huntington Beach.
OCC, which has won three straight women’s state championships, had 11 women qualify for May’s state meet at Merced.
Tina Constable led OCC, winning the 50-meter freestyle (25.32 seconds) and 50 butterfly (27.70). Constable also swam on OCC’s 400 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams, which finished first. Debbie Van Hemert won the 50 backstroke (31.20) for the Pirates.
In the men’s division, Karl Stewart won the 200 freestyle (1:47.81) and the 100 backstroke (57.20). Stewart also anchored the winning 800 freestyle relay team.
