A soggy baseball field at Cal State Northridge forced the cancellation of Friday’s game between the Matadors and University of Portland.

Coach Terry Craven will decide this morning whether today’s noon doubleheader against the University of San Diego will be played.

“It looks doubtful right now,” Craven said Friday afternoon. “The problem area is around home plate. We’re going to take all the water off this afternoon. If we get some weather that will help it dry, we’ll be OK, but it looks like we may be out of luck.”

Tony Estrada (2-1) and Dan Penner (3-2) are scheduled to pitch for Northridge (10-6).

Northridge’s softball doubleheader against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, also scheduled for noon today, will probably be played if it’s not raining.

“The field is OK,” said Coach Gary Torgeson on Friday. “There is just one spot around shortstop that’s wet. It normally takes only about two hours to dry.”

San Luis Obispo’s team was already on its way to Northridge Friday afternoon. “If we can’t get it in on Saturday, then we will probably play it on Sunday,” Torgeson said.

Debbie Dickman (4-2) and Delanee Anderson (2-2) are scheduled to pitch for Northridge, which is 9-4 overall, 7-0 against Division II competition.
