There are 18,000 residents in Agoura Hills, and based on all indications Saturday, most of them play soccer.

Agoura High won its second consecutive Southern Section 2-A girls soccer title with a 4-1 victory over Bonita at Gahr High, giving the school a sweep for the second straight year. The boys team won the 1-A title earlier in the afternoon, defeating Oak Park.

“The sport has been growing by leaps and bounds,” said Agoura Coach Dave Godwin. It’s a sport that allows everybody, big or small, fast or slow, weak or strong, to play.”

Godwin soon learned that his Agoura team was big, strong and fast when they snuck up behind him, boosted him onto their shoulders and hauled him to midfield to collect the team trophies.

Agoura (21-1-3) scored first on a goal by freshman Heidi Walters at the 18-minute mark. Eleven minutes later, Agoura’s Sandy Convey scored from 10 yards out for a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Tracey Matson answered a Bonita goal with a lob shot over the arms of Bonita goalkeeper Angela Slavin, giving Agoura a 3-1 lead.

Janet Galer scored Agoura’s final goal with five minutes remaining in the match.
