Prep Baseball : Christian Holds Off Crawford, 10-9

Christian High School got back-to-back triples in the sixth inning to break a 7-7 tie and then hung on to defeat visiting Crawford, 10-9, Wednesday in a Crawford tournament game.

With two out in the sixth, Jimmy Loucks and Jon Okken walked, then Russ Henzie drove them both in with a triple. Mike Ippolito scored Henzie with another triple, and Christian led, 10-7.

Crawford (0-2) scored a pair of runs in the seventh, but Christian’s Ed Marquis (1-0) was able to close the door. Ippolito was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Craig Johnson was 3 for 3 with an RBI for Christian (1-1).

In other Crawford tournament games:

Morse 7, University City 6--Joel Lager hit a sixth-inning double to drive in the tying run and then he scored from second on an error to give host Morse (2-0) the victory. For Morse, which had trailed by 6-1, David Grigsby went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. University City is 1-1.

La Jolla 12, Clairemont 7--Brent Woodall hit a two-run triple and Blake Ellis was 2 for 4 with an RBI to lead visiting La Jolla (2-0). Rick Doane and Mike Giardano drove in two runs each for Clairemont (0-2).

GMC Tournament San Diego 8, Marian 4--Tony Farrell hit two home runs and Jose Alejo hit a three-run homer to lead San Diego (2-0) over host Marian (1-1). Edgar Peralta (1-0) was the winning pitcher.

Mount Miguel 10, Southwest 1-- Ed Cervantes and J.J. Ludlo stole three bases each to lead Mount Miguel (2-0), which stole 14 bases against host Southwest (0-2). Cervantes was 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Rich Ayala had a single, triple and two RBIs in two at-bats.

Coronado 9, Francis Parker 5--Noia Duhla and Bill Pate each went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs to lead host Coronado (2-0). John Johann (1-0) pitched the last three innings for the victory over Francis Parker (0-2).

Santana 10, Valhalla 5-- Mark Sherman was 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs and pitched a complete game for visiting Santana (2-0). Sherman is 6 for 6 in his first two games.

Montgomery 2, El Cajon 0--Troy Beale walked, stole second, advanced to third on Dave Schmidt’s single and stole home on a double steal in the first inning for the only run that visiting Montgomery would need. Schmidt also scored in the first for Montgomery (1-1). Jay Peralta allowed one hit over the final 4 innings for the victory.
