Co-Coaches Tom Stevenson and Mel Hein had defending state champion Taft High take it easy in a West Valley League track meet against Canoga Park on Friday because some of their runners are competing in today’s Northridge-Alemany invitational meet. But the Toreadors still dominated, winning 11 of 13 events in a 108-14 win at Taft.

Junior Quincy Watts, the defending state champion in the 200 meters, won the 100 meters in 10.7 and the 220-yard dash in 21.9.

One of the closest competitions was in the long jump, where Taft’s Lawrence Killens jumped 21-6 to edge Mike Conover of Canoga Park (0-3, 0-1) by four inches.
