Prep Roundup : Brown Pitches Pacifica to Victory Over Los Alamitos

Christy Brown pitched a complete-game two-hitter, striking out 14 and walking two, to lead Pacifica High School to a 2-0 victory over Los Alamitos in the semifinals of the Cypress softball tournament.

Ruth Hrycyk and Dena Villasenor drove in the runs for Pacifica (6-1), which plays St. Joseph for the championship today at 7 p.m. at Cypress Arnold Field.

In other Cypress tournament games:

La Mirada 1, Woodbridge 0--La Mirada’s Dena Mullins allowed two hits and Woodbridge’s Tiffany Boyd only one, but La Mirada won a ninth-place semifinal by scoring the game’s only run on two errors.

Cypress 1, Mater Dei 0--Cypress scored on an error by the Mater Dei catcher in the bottom of the seventh.

Edison 6, Kennedy 1--Terry Carpenter pitched a three-hitter and struck out 13 to lead the Chargers (6-1) at Oak Knoll Park in Cypress. Carpenter (5-1) has 80 strikeouts in six games. Dena Baker was had two hits and two RBIs for Edison.

In South Coast League softball action:

Capistrano Valley 7, Dana Hills 0--Margo Melendrez pitched a complete-game shutout and went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, leading the Cougars (1-0, 3-2) to the victory at home.
