Davila Wins Decision From Geronimo

Share

Former World Boxing Council bantamweight champion Albert Davila won a unanimous 10-round decision Monday night over Edel Geronimo, the 118-pound champion of the Philippines, at the Irvine Marriott.

Davila was cut above the right eye in the second round, but it was not a factor in the fight. There were no knockdowns.

Davila, 32, won the WBC bantamweight crown in September 1983, with a 12th-round knockout of Kiko Bejines in Los Angeles.

Davila (53-8) defended his title once before injuring his back while doing yardwork at his home in Pomona. After a year of rehabilitation, he lost a 12-round decision in a WBC title match to Happy Lora in Colombia last November.

Geronimo fell to 16-2.
