Egan Withdraws Name From Reno Job

Hank Egan, University of San Diego basketball coach, said Tuesday that he has withdrawn his name from consideration for the basketball coaching job at Nevada Reno.

Egan interviewed for the Nevada Reno job on Sunday.

“I called them and told them I wasn’t interested,” Egan said.

Egan, who led USD to a 24-6 record this season, was originally contacted by Nevada Reno and went for the interview, he said, “only to listen to what they had to say.”

The Rev. Patrick Cahill, USD athletic director, said the university is hoping to keep Egan for next season. Cahill said all university employees are employed on one-year contracts.

“He would not be breaking a contract if he went elsewhere,” Cahill said.

Although Egan said he is not seeking other jobs, his name was mentioned by Wyoming Athletic Director Paul Roach as a possible candidate for the newly opened basketball coaching job at that school.

“That’s coming from his end completely,” Egan said of Roach. “I have had no contact at all with them.”
