Share

Brett Snyder, a pitcher for Capistrano Valley High School, is neither flashy nor overpowering, but Wednesday afternoon he showed why he is one of Orange County’s top prospects. He shut down El Toro, 2-1, in a South Coast League baseball game at El Toro High School.

Snyder (3-0) limited the Chargers to six hits, struck out five and gave up his only run in the first inning. El Toro leadoff batter Steve Wood led off with a double, and the next hitter, Adam Brass, singled to left field to score Wood.

Snyder allowed only four Charger runners as far as second base from the second inning on.

The Cougars (8-1), who last year advanced to the second round of the Southern Section 2-A playoffs after finishing second in the South Coast League, scored in the first and third innings. In the first, with runners on second and third, Snyder grounded out to second base, scoring Bill Bardens for a 1-0 lead.
