HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS : BASEBALL : Westlake Allows 1 Hit in 7-0 Win

Greg Struhl and John Chiaramonte combined for a one-hitter, and Matt Franco hit a two-run home run and a double as Westlake High shut out Channel Islands, 7-0, in a Marmonte League game on Friday at Channel Islands.

Franco hit his third home run of the season for Westlake (5-4 overall, 2-0 in league).

Struhl gave up a single to Mario Sanchez, the second batter of the game, before retiring the next 13. He struck out nine and walked five in six innings.

In Simi Valley’s 6-4 win over Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley, Don Giannone broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run single in the third inning. Tim Laker was 2 for 3 for Simi Valley (9-1, 3-0). Blake Evans was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and Kris Kaelin was 2 for 3 for Thousand Oaks (3-8, 0-3). . . . Royal jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the third inning and held on to beat Camarillo, 5-4, in a Marmonte League game at Camarillo. Jim Dollar pitched the first five innings and allowed three runs for Royal (4-3-1, 1-1). Royal’s Dan Presta recorded the save.

Burroughs committed seven errors that led to four unearned runs in the first three innings, losing to Alhambra, 7-5, in a Foothill League game at Burroughs. Burroughs (5-5, 1-2) has allowed 63 runs in 10 games, 50 of which have been in the first three innings. John Barnfather was 2 for 3 with one run scored and two steals, JoJo Carmona was 2 for 3, John Butler was 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored, and Robert Chavez was 1 for 1 with 3 walks and 2 RBIs for Burroughs.

Alemany committed four errors in the first four innings, allowing St. John Bosco to score six unearned runs in a 9-5 loss in a Del Rey League game at Alemany. Sean Sosa was 1 for 3 and drove in 2 runs with a home run in the fourth inning for Alemany (6-5, 0-3). . . . Senior right-hander Scott Hauser threw a complete game and struck out eight as Montclair Prep (9-1, 3-0) beat Marshall Fundamental, 5-1, in an Alpha League game at Montclair Prep. Hauser (3-0) also broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run double in the fourth inning. . . . Senior Troy Lawrence (3-0) threw a complete game and scattered eight hits as L.A. Baptist (4-1) beat L.A. Lutheran, 6-3, in an Alpha League game at L.A. Lutheran.

Jose Delacruz hit a two-run homer and added a double as St. Genevieve beat Pater Noster, 14-4, in a Santa Fe league at Scholl Canyon Park. . . . Harvard scored 12 runs on 7 hits and 13 walks but still lost to Cathedral, 14-12, in a Santa Fe League game. Marty Holly was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Jimmy Ardell was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and scored 3 runs for Harvard (3-5, 1-2). . . . Bell-Jeff’s Al Vucerevic singled in two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game and teammate Tom Ressler tripled and scored the winning run on a passed ball in the fifth inning to give Bell-Jeff a 4-3 win over Chaminade (4-3, 1-1). Junior James Milhanich, who was sidelined for 2 1/2 weeks with tendinitis in his elbow, pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out 12 for Bell-Jeff (2-1, 3-6).

Santa Paula used four hits and three walks to jump out to a five-run lead in the first inning en route to a 12-2 victory over Calabasas in a Frontier League game at Santa Paula. Glenn Hansen was 2 for 3 and had an RBI to lead Calabasas (1-2). . . . Ed Campaniello hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, but it was not enough as Agoura (1-2, 3-3) lost to Santa Clara, 8-4, in a Frontier League game at Santa Clara.

Tony Saccaro struck out 18 batters and Anthony Serra had a run-scoring double in the ninth inning to give Grace Community (2-1) an 8-7 victory over California Christian (3-3) in a nonleague game at Grace Community. Saccaro (2-0) threw a complete game and had one walk. . . . Junior Aaron Rudelson pitched a three-hitter and drove in five runs as Highland Hall (5-2) defeated Coutin, 13-3, in a nonleague game at Petit Park. Rudelson (4-0) struck out 10 and walked three. He also was 3 for 4 with a double and triple. Dax Tobin had three hits and three stolen bases for Highland Hall.

Sean Tucker and Brian Bittner combined to drive in six runs as Simi Lutheran (4-3) defeated Newbridge, 15-7, in a nonleague game at Cal Lutheran University. Tucker was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. Bittner had three hits, including a double and a triple, and three RBIs and four stolen bases.

Scott Ziegler (1-0) allowed one run in 4 innings and had the game-winning RBI with a fourth-inning single as Oak Park beat Villanova Prep, 7-1, in a nonleague game at Oak Park. Scott Veres was 2 for 3 with a double for Oak Park (3-3).
