Cypress and Saddleback Gain in Softball Play
Cypress and Saddleback won first-round games in the Fullerton College softball tournament Saturday at Fullerton.
Cypress defeated Orange Coast College, 6-5, scoring four unearned runs in the third inning.
Chris Sharry singled to drive in one run and came all the way around to score when center fielder Tammi Platfoot allowed the ball to go between her legs and to the fence.
Dana Carlson had a home run, triple and three RBIs for Orange Coast.
Saddleback’s Rhonda Nelson singled in the sixth, took second on an error and scored when third baseman Jennifer Dimon misplayed a grounder, enabling the Gauchos to score a 3-2 victory over El Camino.
Palomar defeated San Bernardino, 7-1, and Fullerton had a bye.
