Edison’s Smith and Ogburn Sign Letters of Intent

Two players who helped the Edison High School girls’ basketball team win the Southern Section 4-A championship--center Kristi Smith and guard Denise Ogburn--signed national letters of intent Thursday.

Smith, a 6-foot 1-inch transfer from Elsinore High who averaged 20.7 points and 10.5 rebounds, will attend the University of Utah. Ogburn, a 5-4 three-year starter who averaged 12.5 points, 5 steals and 5 assists, will attend Cal Poly Pomona.

Smith was named Sunset League and 4-A player of the year and also was a first-team, all-state selection by Cal-Hi Sports Magazine. Ogburn is a three-time All-Sunset League selection. Both made The Times’ 1987 All-Orange County Team.
