When DeDe Weiman reaches her senior year, it may be hard for Gahr High School of Cerritos to get invited to Orange County softball tournaments. As a sophomore, she almost single-handedly won the Woodbridge tournament.

Weiman pitched a no-hitter to beat Sunny Hills, 1-0, Tuesday in the championship game at Harvard Park in Irvine. It was her third no-hitter of the tournament.

Weiman, a right-hander who also threw no-hitters against El Toro and Crescenta Valley, has no-hitters in five of the last six games. Weiman, the tournament most valuable player, struck out 10 Tuesday.

Gahr Coach John Klein said Weiman, the Southern Section 4-A player of the year as a freshman, is working to get better.

“Last year, she mostly went with the riseball,” he said. “She got away with it because nobody had seen her. Now, she’s working on a drop and a change.”

Gahr (14-3) scored in the first inning on a two-out, ground-rule double by Sandi Gannon and a single to left by Kelly Inouye. Sunny Hills left fielder Terri Vansickle bobbled the ball, allowing Gannon to score.

Earlier Tuesday, Sunny Hills (16-5), led by Suzanne Steinke’s two triples, defeated Garden Grove, 7-1, to advance to the final.

“We used it all up (in the semifinal),” said Cathy Williams, Sunny Hills coach. “We weren’t seeing the ball (against Gahr). Our bats were slow.”
