BASEBALL

David Lee pitched three innings of no-hit relief to lead Hart to a 7-0 victory over Burroughs (8-8, 3-5 in league) in a Foothill League game at Hart. Lee, who earned the save, struck out seven in three innings, including the final four batters. Casey Burrill started for Hart (13-6, 5-3) and pitched four innings. He allowed five hits and struck out four to earn his second league win. Burrill also was 2 for 4 with an RBI. . . . Bryan Chandler pitched and batted Burbank to a 4-1, Foothill League win at San Gabriel. Chandler (7-3) was 3 for 4 with an RBI and pitched five innings, allowing one earned run and striking out three. Wayne Schull pitched two innings of no-hit relief to record his third save. Ray Lemus had a two-run home run in the fourth for Burbank (13-4, 5-3 in league).

Senior Jason Ornstein was 4 for 5 with a home run and 4 RBIs as Oak Park beat Fillmore, 15-4, in a Tri-Valley League game at Oak Park. In the fifth inning, Terry Humphreys broke a 4-4 tie with a two-run home run. One batter later, Ornstein also hit a two-run home run to give Oak Park (7-4, 5-2 in league) an 8-4 lead. Mike Birch, who had three singles, pitched a complete game and struck out five to improve his record to 6-4.

Eric Gunther’s single in the fifth inning of the second game gave St. Genevieve a sweep of a nonleague doubleheader against Murphy. Gunther’s single scored Dave Alvarez, who had doubled to open the inning, and gave St. Genevieve a 3-2 win in the second game. Jack Leighton (1-0) went the distance for St. Genevieve (7-7). He struck out four and walked four. In the first game, Mike Rohrbough (3-2) struck out nine and walked two as St. Genevieve defeated Murphy, 6-2. Alvarez was 3 for 4 for St. Genevieve.

Santa Clara put together a five-hit, three-run seventh inning and beat Agoura, 7-2, in a Frontier League game at Agoura. Mike Maggora was 2 for 3 with double and Sean McKenna was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Agoura (3-9, 1-6 in league).

Scott Hauser won his fifth game without a defeat this year and 13th straight over two seasons, leading Montclair Prep to a 7-1, Alpha League victory over Village Christian (4-9, 2-5). Hauser allowed seven singles and struck out 10. Jeff Light was 2 for 3 with a home run and J.R. Smith was 2 for 4 with a double for Montclair Prep (13-4, 6-1). Right-hander Steve Dempsey (2-6) struck out eight and scattered five hits as L.A. Lutheran (3-9-1, 3-4 in league) won its third straight game, a 6-3 victory over La Verne Lutheran in an Alpha League game at La Verne Lutheran.

Steve Ross hit a leadoff home run in the first inning and added a grand slam in the fourth to lead Providence to a 10-3 Delphic League win at Crossroads (12-5, 1-1). Ross was 3 for 5 with 5 RBIs. Rich Campus had three hits, including a home run and a double, and two runs batted in for Providence (12-5-1, 2-1). Paul Garcia and Mark Miyamoto each added three hits for Providence. Right-hander Jeff Cirillo (6-2) pitched a three-hitter. He allowed no earned runs and struck out four.

SOFTBALL

Nikki Fox singled home pinch-runner Stephanie Olsen with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Hart a 1-0 Foothill League victory over Burbank. Olsen was running for Michelle Nedin, who opened the seventh with a single. Freshman Kym Weil (9-5) pitched a one-hitter and struck out seven. Fox was 2 for 3 for Hart (13-5, 2-1). Debby Day allowed four hits and struck out five for Burbank (15-2, 2-1).

Christy Teffeteller was 3 for 3, including a grand slam, with 7 RBIs and stole 3 bases in the first inning to lead Simi Lutheran to a 28-8 win over Viewpoint in a Heritage League game. Viewpoint (3-3 in league) issued 26 walks in two innings to Simi Lutheran batters. Kori Kozub was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs for Simi Lutheran (11-5, 6-0 in league).

Heidi Ogawa’s popup with two outs in the bottom of the seventh was dropped by the second baseman, scoring Stacy Tilton with the winning run in Oak Park’s 7-6 victory over Moorpark in a Tri-Valley League game. The error ruined a comeback that saw Moorpark scored five runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Tilton (6-5) allowed eight hits and struck out nine. Jamie Medby and Michele Fetro each had two hits for Oak Park (6-5, 3-5 in league). Denise Duarte was 2 for 4 for Moorpark (3-5 in league).

Dawn Hatmaker’s two-out ground ball off the second baseman’s glove scored Stacey Frydenberg with the only run of the game as Newbury Park defeated Simi Valley, 1-0, in a Marmonte League game. Simi Valley (4-3 in league) stranded five baserunners as Marilyn Carroll (6-2) pitched a four-hitter for Newbury Park (16-4, 7-0 in league). Simi Valley’s Chrissy Oliver took the loss despite pitching a one-hitter.

Senior right-hander Michelle Vail threw a four-hitter and struck out 10 as Village Christian defeated Montclair Prep, 3-2, in an Alpha League game at Village Christian. Montclair Prep (3-3 in league) held a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, but Village Christian (9-3, 4-2 in league) rallied on singles by Pam Hale and Vail and a two-run single by Kelly Wood.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Seniors Steve Chuck and Corey Davidson each had 10 kills as North Hollywood beat Marshall, 16-14, 15-7, 15-9, in a nonleague volleyball match at North Hollywood. The Huskies (7-2), who avenged a four-game loss to Marshall on March 18, will try to move into a first-place tie in the Mid-Valley League when it plays at Granada Hills (8-1) on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Mike Lowe had 10 kills to go along with the setting of sophomore Jeff Given as Harvard improved its record to 11-0 with a 15-10, 15-10, 15-9 nonleague win over Glendale.
