Community College Softball : No-Hitter for Lyman, and Lots More

Joyce Lyman pitched her fifth no-hitter of the season, leading Rancho Santiago College to an 18-0 Orange Empire Conference victory Wednesday at Citrus. The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Lyman (17-3) struck out three and walked none. She lost a perfect game in the fourth inning when a bunted ball was dropped at first base for an error.

Debbie Kerr led the Rancho Santiago offense, tying a school record with three doubles. Kerr was 3 for 4 with five RBIs. Sandy Ortiz was 3 for 3 with an RBI and Christi Kalehuawehe was 3 for 4 with a double and triple and three runs scored. Lee Bladow was 3 for 4.

The first-place Dons (13-2, 25-7) set a school record with six doubles and tied a school record with 17 hits. Lyman’s first strikeout broke the record of 152 team strikeouts in a season, set in 1985.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Cypress 7, Orange Coast 0--Noel Parker (13-17) pitched her seventh shutout and Priscilla Villagomez had two hits and scored two runs for the Chargers (7-8, 15-19). Dee Dee Shephard also had two hits, including a triple, for Cypress. OCC is 3-10, 8-17.

Saddleback 4, Riverside 0--Patti Taylor pitched a one-hitter, allowing a first-inning single, and had 13 strikeouts as the Gauchos (12-3, 28-8) won at Riverside.

Golden West 1, Cerritos 0--Kathy Fogg, who was the winning pitcher, doubled in the winning run from third base in the fourth inning at home.
