HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS : Chaminade Gains Split in Nevada

Share

Chaminade High baseball Coach Bernie Kyman has always stressed to his players that they should play hurt. He set an example for them Thursday by coaching the team’s two games in Boulder City, Nev., from a wheelchair. Kyman has been confined to a wheelchair since undergoing skin cancer surgery on his legs last week.

“I just feel I should be part of the team if I’m capable,” Kyman said. “I’m capable. When I was a player I always played hurt. My own kids play hurt. I gotta practice what I preach.”

Kyman flew to Boulder City Thursday after his doctor changed his bandages. Kyman arrived in the third inning of the team’s first game of the day. By that time, the Eagles had already fell behind in an eventual 5-1 defeat to Boulder City.
